M.Ed. online program. Fall 2015 semester Digital Literacy : Theory, Research and Practice Professor: Dr. Janette Hughes Definition of Digital Literacy
This is one definition of Digital Literacy that I found during week 1. I could relate to this definition and although there are many I continue to reflect on this one.
"Digital literacy is the ability to understand information - more important - to evaluate and integrate information in multiple formats that the computer can deliver. Being able to evaluate and interpret info is critical [...] you can't understand information you find on the internet without evaluating its source and placing it in context. Understanding Digital Literacies: A Practical Introduction.
Authors: Rodney H. Jones & Christoph A. Hafner Digital LiteracyThe future... I see it in my classroom everyday now I must catch up.
- I chose this image to illustrate the advancement in technology that children will use now and in the future in terms of digital literacy. In another. M.Ed course one of my classmates showed a classroom where the desks were touch screen and connected to a smartboard. Children learned in a virtual manner through collaborative problem solving to meet authentic learning challenges. I was amazed at this learning opportunity and have now connected this technology resource to digital literacy in this course. Multi-touch tables in the classroom.. I found this video that shows the use of touch tables in collaborative learning spaces. ( video of multi-touch tables in the classroom beside this write up) - Children have access to more and more information and we need to provide them with tools to gather and use the material that are significant to them and their learning. - with interactive tables such as this one students become engaged and begin to verbalize their learning in a safe and collaborative setting - as stated in the video the use of this technology supports a social pedagogy where students work collaboratively to meet different challenges. -I was fascinated by the amount of digital literacy and the different means that children could use to demonstrate their learning. - Children were able to move text about and make revisions as they verbalized their thinking. All the children had equal access to the space to share their ideas. |
Images.... from the past and future.
I picked these images because I am a very visual learner. Also I think it is always important to keep time and the meaning of technology in our minds... what is technology today? What type of digital literacy and prior knowledge do our students have ? Foremost to always provide our students with the means and opportunities to advance their learning. Digital literacies such as the e-literature that we learned about in week 6 allow students to explore and present their voice in a variety of creative ways.
